Kolkata: A 17-year-old youth was stabbed to death with a beer bottle, allegedly by his friends, after a birthday party in an upscale Ballygunge residential complex on Saturday.
The victim, Aabesh Dasgupta, was a student of one of Kolkata's best known schools. His father, who is no more, was a police officer.
One of Aabesh's friends was detained late on Saturday. Preliminary probe has revealed the murder may be the fallout of a love triangle between two friends over the daughter of a celebrity. No complaint has been filed yet. Police have filed a case of unnatural death. Police have found that 17 youngsters attended the birthday party of a girl at a posh club on Saturday afternoon, said joint CP-crime Vishal Garg. They drove back to Sunny Park, where an argument broke out in the parking lot and Aabesh was stabbed.
It's likely that the rest of the boys left him and fled be cause by the time he was spotted by security guards, he was unconscious and there was no one around. Blood stains on the floor suggest Aabesh tried to drag himself out to seek help but collapsed, an officer said.
Guards called police at 6.10pm. Abesh was taken to hospital at 6.50pm but was declared dead on arrival. Police found shards of beer bottles and clumps of dried blood at the crime scene.
Investigators are hoping to get clues from CCTV footage but there is no camera at the crime scene. Police have taken the statement of Aabesh's mother and will speak with the other guests. Guards and other residents of the complex are also being questioned for leads.Police believe the murder was not pre-planned and happened on the spur of the moment.
