TMC candidate Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia is leading from Cooch Behar in the Lok Sabha election 2024, as per the latest voting trends.

Cooch Behar constituency voted in the first phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on April 19. Voter turnout was recorded at 82.17 per cent. The seat is looking at a contest between Jagadish Chandra Basunia (AITC), Nisith Pramanik (BJP), Nitish Chandra Roy (AIFB), and Piya Roy Chowdhury (INC).

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, BJP’s Nisith Pramanik had won this seat with 7,31,594 votes. AITC’s Adhikary Paresh Chandra came second with 6,77,363 votes.

As per the 2011 census, the Cooch Behar (SC) parliamentary seat boasts a substantial electorate, with approximately 48.6 per cent Scheduled Caste (SC) voters and around 26.3 per cent Muslim voters. Scheduled Tribe (ST) voters constitute approximately 0.5 per cent of the population. Rural voters make up the majority, accounting for around 90 per cent of the population, while urban voters comprise approximately 10 per cent of the populace.

As of the 2019 Parliament Election, the total number of voters in the Cooch Behar (SC) constituency stands at 18,10,660, with 2,010 polling booths facilitating the electoral process. The voter turnout for the 2019 Parliament Election was recorded at 83.8 per cent.
