“Since Bhattacharya was employed with an NGO and her husband Biman was a senior RBI official, both found little time to spend with their only daughter. Kaberi never forgot the `neglect'. Biman was detected with cancer three years ago and he passed away within a year. Bhattacharya blamed the couple for not spending enough to save her husband's life. Anupam felt he was being blamed even though he was staying at his wife's place to take care of his mother-in-law,“ said police.
DC Behala Meeraj Khalid said on the evening of August 25, Bhattacharya had an argument with the couple. “Around 10pm, an agitated Kaberi went back to her room but Anupam stayed back at his mother-inlaw's room. He decided to murder Bhattacharya so that he could stay at the house without any trouble,“ said Khalid. He also forced her to write a suicide note on a page from his kid's school notebook. “But, he came under suspicion when he tried to act smart,“ added Khalid.
