NEW DELHI: Flight operations at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport resumed at 8 am on Friday following the landfall of cyclone Dana on the Odisha coast, officials reported. Train services in the south section of the Sealdah Division under the Eastern Railway began again at 10 am after being canceled due to the cyclone.

Airport authorities had suspended flight operations from Thursday evening as a safety measure. According to an Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson, the first flight, an IndiGo service to Imphal, departed at 8.40 am. The first inbound flight, operated by Vistara from Delhi, landed at 8.45 am.

Kolkata airport confirmed the resumption on Twitter, stating, "Flight operations resumed at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata at 08.00 hrs, after it was closed for flight operation yesterday in view of the cyclone Dana."

Meanwhile, the first train service to restart was a Sonarpur local at 10 am, according to a railway official, who noted that services would gradually be restored throughout the day.

The South Eastern Railway (SER) cancelled over 170 express and passenger trains between October 23 and 27, and the Eastern Railway cancelled 68 suburban trains in the Howrah division for Friday morning.

All EMU local trains from Sealdah station were suspended from Thursday evening till October 25 morning.
