Anti-ragging panel a toothless tiger?
Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad is facing criticism for not having a comprehensive anti-ragging mechanism. Students have alleged that the college's anti-ragging committee lacks representation from various stakeholders, making it ineffective. The National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines state that the committee should have a diverse mix of members, but most of the committee members at Gandhi Medical College are from the college itself. The college principal defended the composition of the committee, stating that students and media personnel are only involved during inquiries into incidents. The duties of the anti-ragging committee include monitoring activities and investigating reports of ragging.
