joined Trinamool Congress on Thursday, iterating her faith in chief minister Mamata Banerjee to lead the state.

Aditi, whose fan base stretches across large parts of south Bengal, was dubbed by Trinamool MP Saugata Roy as “among the best” who have joined the party in recent times.

Aditi indicated she was “ready to work for people”' alongside the CM. She is married to Debraj Chakrabarty, a former Bidhannagar municipality councillor, and is a Rabindra Bharati University post-graduate, having researched Padabali Kirtan.

“I am new to politics. But I have seen how my father-in-law and my husband work for people. There is a joy in working for people. I want to share this joy too. I am happy Didi and (MP) Abhishek Banerjee have given me this responsibility,” she said.

Roy, who inducted Aditi, said: “She is widely travelled, but to us she is also a flagbearer of one of Bengal’s most loved vocal art forms – kirtan.”

Actor Subhadra Mukherjee and actor-director Dheeraj Pandit too joined Trinamool. Pandit, who has worked in Bollywood, Tollywood and Bhojpuri film industries, said: “I have come to Kolkata from Mumbai to see Mamata Banerjee’s victory.”
