KOLKATA: Well known Odissi dancer Rajib Bhattacharya recently performed in a programme at ICCR Kolkata hosted by Srijan Chhanda, where the senior members of Srijan Chhanda also performed.
The dance programme of Bhattacharya titled Guru Brahma was to pay homage to the trinity God. The performance to offer homage appeared ecclesiastical.
The programme was held as a mark of paying tribute to Pandit Birju Maharaj and Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra. Even Guru Ratikant Mahapatra was also present at the show and performed later and he too appreciated Bhattacharya.
Rajib Bhattacharya who is already an exponent in the field of Odissi dance proved once again his mastery and his skills through his wonderful pace. The body movement was exuberant and for the young dancers he can be a role model. Bhattacharya whose flawless steps kept the audience enthralled is now more committed and busy concentrating on developing his students as he had been motivating young minds for long.
The regional director ICCR R Parthiban was also present to witness the extraordinary skills of Bhattacharya who thanked the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India for rendering their support in organising this programme.
Guru Ratikant Mahapatra – well known exponent in the field of Odissi dance was another show stopper in the programme as he performed . Ratikant, son of the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra made his presence felt in the programme and was highly appreciated by all.
Ratikant has carved an enviable niche for himself as a dancer, teacher and choreographer. Even duet by Aishwariya Singhdev & Preetisha Mahapatra was highly applauded. Preetisha Mahapatra started her formal training in Odissi dance at an early age from her grandfather late Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra, the founder father and principal architect of Odissi dance.
