Man walks into police station, confesses to killing wife
Kanksa (West Burdwan): A 33 -year-old bank official walked into Kanksa police station on Sunday night, claiming he had strangled his wife to death with their pet dog’s leash. Police rushed to their apartment to find a young woman, identified as Ipsita Priyadarshini, lying dead on the floor. Accused Biplab Parida was arrested.
Biplab, who is an assistant manager at the Central Bank of India, said they had got married two years ago. The couple, who are from Cuttack in Odisha, were living in a rented apartment at Arrah. Biplab said that Ipsita refused to cook and clean, wanted frequent trips to her hometown and also sought to pursue a fashion designing course in Kolkata. He told cops he was driven to killing his wife out of frustration.
Denying the claims, Ipsita’s father alleged that Biplab had demanded Rs 35 lakh as dowry to buy a new flat and murdered her over this. The family lodged a police complaint against him under sections 498A (harassment and torture for dowry), 304B (committing dowry death) and 302 (murder).
Police first took Ipsita’s body to Panagarh block primary health centre, where the attending doctor confirmed the death was unnatural. The body was then sent for postmortem.
