MLA Bayron takes oath amid TMC arrest call

Kolkata: Bayron Biswas took oath as an MLA in the Bengal assembly on Wednesday, 20 days after Congress’s Sagardighi assembly bypoll victory on March 2.
Speaker Biman Banerjee administered the oath to Biswas even as Trinamool demanded his arrest for “verbally abusing” the party’s Dhulian leader, Sanjay Jain, over the phone on Monday and “threatening to kill” him.
“My oath would have been administered the day after my winning the polls had I been a Trinamool MLA. I had to wait for 20 days because I am a Congress MLA,” Biswas claimed after the ceremony.
TMC supporters led by Samserganj MLA Amirul Islam had demonstrated at the police station on Monday, after which an FIR was lodged. TMC general secretary Kunal Ghosh reiterated the arrest demand on Wednesday.
The Sagardighi MLA denied the claims against him. “This is a sub judice matter. Let the court and the administration examine the complaint and take a decision,” he said. “It is a doctored audio clip. The allegation against me is baseless. Facts will come to light in court.” In response to Trinamool’s demand, Biswas said: “The court can pass an arrest order. The administration can do that. How can politicians say so?” tnn
