NIA arrests Kol resident for ‘spying’ for Pak
Kolkata: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a Kolkata resident, Zafar Riaz alias Rizvi, for allegedly passing confidential security-related information to Pakistan Intelligence Officers (PIOs) as part of an anti-India terror conspiracy, the agency said in a statement.The NIA said a Look Out Circular had been issued against the accused and proceedings were underway to declare him a Proclaimed Offender (PO) before he was taken into custody. He was arrested under various sections of the BNS, the Official Secrets Act and the UAPA.According to the agency, the accused was married to a Pakistani national and his children were Pakistani citizens.The NIA said Zafar had earlier been convicted in an espionage case under the IPC and the Official Secrets Act. Investigations in case RC-12/2025/NIA/DLI revealed that he travelled frequently between India and Pakistan since 2005.
