KOLKATA: For some, Bengal’s biggest festival Durga puja is only not about the pomp and revelry. The festival is also about giving and working quietly among the less privileged.

This Puja, members of CHARIS, an organisation by professionals from different walks of life has touched upon the lives of many in this tribal village in Hooghly district with its project Sharod in the run-up to the festivity.

With its initiative called Ctrl+Alt+Dlt the organisation installed computers in the village of Anur around 70 students aged between 5 and 18 years of age will be benefitted.

A computer trainer in the village itself will be imparting computer education to these children helping them become digitally smart and employable. CHARIS will be tracking the progress taking regular feedback like routine tests.

The organisation has also executed an initiative named Kusum creating awareness on menstrual hygiene removing myths and taboos and also giving away sanitary pads to women and girls in the village. Doctors from the organisation also carried out medical camp distributing free medicines. The village does not have easy access to medical facilities and the organisations will continue such camps on regular basis.

The Durga puja project ended with distribution new clothes for the festival to poor children of the village.
