RG Kar rape-murder victim’s dad deposes on day 1 of trial

KOLKATA: The elderly father of the RG Kar rape-murder victim deposed as the in camera trial began in a Sealdah court on Monday.

Soon after the closed-door proceedings began at 2.19pm, the victim’s father started his deposition, tears in his eyes. The court, which heard two witnesses on the first day, fell silent as he narrated his daughter’s ordeal.

The other person who deposed during the day was a local resident of Sodepur, where the victim’s family stays. Two doctors are set to testify on Tuesday.

The most dramatic moment, perhaps, occurred as the court proceedings wound up, a little after 4.45pm. Prime accused Sanjay Roy, while being taken to the prison van, shouted: “I was not allowed to speak. They are big officers. I am naming them. Vineet Goyal has framed me. Vineet Goyal , DC (DD-Special), has hatched a conspiracy to frame me.”

Senior advocate Vrinda Grover, who represented the victim’s family in Supreme Court, also appeared in the trial court. Roy’s lawyer Sourav Bandyopadhyay, CBI’s investigating officer Seema Pahuja, and the agency’s counsel were present, too, as judge Anirban Das started to hear the case.

“I was present in court today. My chamber will remain there on each day of the hearing. However, I cannot comment on anything since the proceedings are in camera,” Grover said.
