Salt Lake MLA visits BMC HQ, cracks road whip
Kolkata: Bidhannagar MLA Sharadwat Mukherjee has asked the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities to take stock of the damaged roads in the township and repair them at the earliest. The MLA also enquired about the civic body’s monsoon preparedness to prevent waterlogging in Salt Lake.
Mukherjee said that the condition of roads in Salt Lake was in a terrible state and the repair work was expected to start in 10 days. “We do not want to see a waterlogged Bidhannagar. The condition of roads is pathetic. The councillors have gone missing. Somebody has to take up responsibility to repair the roads. It is not the MLA’s job to look after road repairs,” Mukherjee said.
According to the MLA, about four to five stretches in Salt Lake have been identified for urgent repairs. “The stretch near Tank 13 is in a bad shape. The matter has been discussed with the BMC commissioner. The commissioner said that work will be taken up within next 10 days,” Mukherjee said.
“I have almost stopped walking on the road because it is too much of a strain moving along the stretch navigating the potholes. Many will stop driving too unless something is done urgently,” said Supratim Dasgupta, a resident of CK Block.
“The battered condition of roads leads to dust pollution. This has been affecting many like us. I have been suffering from a prolonged spell of dust allergy,” said Santa Chatterjee, a resident of DL Block.
