NEW DELHI: In a significant breakthrough in the Sandeshkhali molestation and land grabbing case, the chief accused and TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested by the West Bengal police on Thursday morning.
According to reports, he was apprehended from a house in the Minakhan area of North 24 Parganas.
"TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested by the West Bengal Police from the Minakhan area in North 24 Parganas," said SDPO of Minakhan, Aminul Islam Khan. Sheikh will be produced before the Basirhat court at 2 pm today.
He had been on the run for over 50 days after an Enforcement Directorate team, which had gone to raid his house, was allegedly attacked by a mob.
