KOLKATA: The state government is working to set up a Centre of Innovation at
Bantala
. Work to construct the building has just started and the centre is expected to be inaugurated later this year.
Senior IT department officials recently held a meeting with experts in the field to decide as to how the innovation centre would function. Experts from different educational institutes and IT firms were at the meeting. Those who attended the meeting has been requested to give their suggestions, feedback and inputs separately by January 31.
Discussions were also held with several companies at the BGBS that concluded on Wednesday as to how
Fintech
and blockchain firms could assist the government in knowledge sharing for developing the Centre of Innovation. The
New Town
Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has come up with plans to develop a Fintech hub in New Town that will consist of blockchain firms.
Officials said that the objective of the centre would be to produce patents and to upscale knowledge in the emerging IT areas like blockchain, fintech and robotics. The centre would work with the industry and academic institutions by organising video workshops and interactions as well as having actual workshops. “The task would be to invite successful patent holders and mentors to handhold aspiring young innovators and help them with industry problems and mentors,” said an official.
The state government last year constituted the
Bantala Industrial Township Authority
(BITA) that is working on developing Sector VI — the new IT hub on
Basanti Highway at Bantala. The state government has been working to prepare a roadmap to develop connectivity between Sector V and the upcoming IT township at Bantala. A plan is on to develop a road that will run along the bheris to connect Sector V with Basanti highway. Once the connector is set up, travel time between Sector V and Basanti Highway will be reduced by half, officials said.
