KALYANI: Students of College of Medicine and Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital launched a protest on Wednesday after a first-year boy was bitten by a snake in his hostel on Tuesday, following which, principal Subikash Biswas and medical superintendent-cum-vice-principal Chanchal Dolui wrote their resignation letters to West Bengal University of Health Sciences.

The victim, Subhankar Das, was taken to the hospital on campus. The protesters alleged the campus is full of overgrowth and snakes are often spotted, and their pleas to clean up the premises had fallen on deaf ears. The college authority alleged that two senior administrative officials to visit Das were not allowed to do so by the agitating students. The protesters allegedly also shifted Das to some other hospital.

Till last reports came in, there was no confirmation whether the resignations were accepted. The students, however, lifted the protest.
