‘Submit plan to save B Garden from erosion’
Kolkata: The NGT has directed the state irrigation department to submit an affidavit, outlining the plan to reinforce 600m of the western bank of the Hooghly so that the erosion does not affect Indian Botanic Garden in Howrah’s Shibpur. According to an earlier affidavit by the irrigation and waterways department, a detailed project report was prepared for the protection of the Hooghly’s right bank, aiming to secure the area along Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden. But it’s not clear if the financial approval has been granted. NGT has sought a fresh affidavit on the financial status in four weeks. Activist Subhas Datta, also the applicant, was present. Botanic Garden filed an affidavit on May 8, saying the area is under KoPT.
