Teacher held for sexually assaulting Class 4 girl in West Bengal

KHANDOGHOSH: A class 4 student was allegedly sexually assaulted by a school teacher on Wednesday during school hours at Amrul Primary School in Khandoghosh, East Burdwan. The incident sparked a confrontation on Thursday between police and villagers, who attempted to attack the accused teacher.

On Friday, the accused teacher was produced in Burdwan court and was charged under the Pocso Act and sexual harassment under BNS. The court remanded him in judicial custody till July 24.

Ten villagers, including two women, were remanded in judicial custody for 7 days. They face charges of assaulting police, obstructing police duties, voluntarily causing harm to officers and damaging a police vehicle.

The situation escalated after the student informed her parents, prompting guardians and villagers to rush to the school. The enraged crowd assaulted the teacher and attempted to drag him out of the school. Police intervened to rescue him, using lathi-charge to disperse the mob. The villagers, angered by the police's actions to protect the teacher, pelted stones at the police vehicle, causing damage and injuring some officers in the process.
