Kolkata: Infighting in the Trinamool Congress continued to surface as the party’s official nominee from ward 22 of Hooghly’s Champdani Municipality lodged a complaint at Chandernagore police commissionerate against “strong-arm tactics” of an Independent.
TMC candidate

Surajit Sarkar

claimed he was being threatened by

Srikanta Mandal

every day since his name was proposed for the ward. He said his posters were being torn and campaigns disrupted.
Mandal, who wields control over the area, has fielded himself as an Independent while his daughter is fighting on a TMC ticket from ward 15 of the same municipality. Mandal denied the charges.
“We have received a complaint and are looking into it,” Chandernagore police commissioner

Arnab Ghosh

said.
Trinamool, meanwhile, expelled 18 party workers in Murshidabad’s Dhulian and two in Jangipur for filing nominations as independent candidates after being denied party tickets. In South 24 Parganas, five were shown the door for the same reason in Rajpur-Sonarpur and Baruipur municipalities. “We will take legal action if they use the party symbol or photograph of Mamata Banerjee during the campaign,” TMC leader

Aroop Biswas

said.
