NEW DELHI: The convoy of West Bengal leader of the opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Cooch Behar.
The TMC dismissed the allegations as a “well-scripted drama.”
Adhikari had traveled to the northern district to lead a BJP rally outside the office of the Cooch Behar superintendent of police, where he was met with sloganeering and black flags near Khagrabari.
BJP leaders said that around 12:35 pm, a mob carrying TMC and black flags gathered at Khagrabari crossing as Adhikari’s convoy passed through.
The protesters reportedly shouted “go back” slogans and threw shoes at his vehicle.
At least one car in the convoy, including a police escort vehicle, sustained damage with shattered windows.
The BJP accused the ruling TMC of orchestrating the attack as a “pre-planned attempt to intimidate the leader of the opposition.”
However, the TMC denied involvement of its workers in the vandalism, calling it “an internal BJP feud.”
Footage from the scene showed vehicles being struck with TMC flags, while shoes were hurled from the crowd.
It remains unclear if anyone was injured in the incident.
