You can fill up Census form online from Aug 1-15
Kolkata: People can themselves log in to the Census website and fill in their details from Aug 1 to Aug 15 to do away with the doorstep verification by enumerators.
A major new feature of Census 2027 will be the self-enumeration facility, which enables households to voluntarily submit their details online via the official portal (www.se.census.gov.in) between Aug 1 and Aug 15 this year. Once submitted, households will receive a unique self-enumeration ID, which will later be verified by enumerators during field visits before being uploaded to the central database.
Households who do not opt for self-enumeration will continue to be covered through the conventional door-to-door survey process, officials said.
The House Listing Operation (HLO) Phase-I will be conducted across the state from Aug 16 to Sept 14. During this phase, enumerators will visit households to collect information relating to housing conditions, household amenities, assets, family particulars and economic activities through a structured questionnaire comprising 33 notified questions under the Census framework.
Bengal has formally begun preparations for Census 2027, following the state govt’s approval for the immediate rollout of the exercise, as announced in a gazette notification issued on May 11.
As part of the preparations, CM Suvendu Adhikari will inaugurate a conference of Principal Census Officers at Nabanna Sabhaghar on Friday. Senior officials from the Directorate of Census Operations, West Bengal, along with district-level officers, are expected to attend the programme.
The upcoming Census is set to be one of the most technology-driven enumeration exercises in the country. According to the Directorate of Census Operations, digital platforms such as the secure HLO mobile application will be used for collecting household responses, while the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) portal will facilitate near real-time monitoring of the exercise. Satellite-assisted mapping through the House Listing Block Creator Web Portal (HLBC Portal) will also be introduced.
Officials said that Friday’s conference will review the present status of the Census exercise and include the unveiling of the official Census 2027 mascot, “Pragati and Vikas”. The programme will also feature a training session for Principal Census Officers and an address by the CM on the importance of the Census operation in the state.
Issuing a release on Thursday, the Centre said, “Residents have been requested to cooperate with the Census officials in the discharge of their duties and provide complete and accurate information. In this regard, people may even contact the toll-free helpline number 1855 for any necessary information required.”
