KANNUR: A police driver in Kannur, Kerala, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly hitting a petrol pump employee with his car and driving for nearly a kilometer with the man clinging to the bonnet.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening when the driver attempted to leave without paying for the fuel. The accused has been arrested and suspended from service.

Kannur city police commissioner Ajith Kumar said various sections, including attempted murder, have been imposed against the accused. He confirmed that the accused has been suspended from service.

The arrest was officially recorded on Monday. The employee involved in the incident, identified as Anil, was injured in the altercation. CCTV footage of the incident shows Anil clinging to the bonnet of the speeding car as it traveled along a busy highway.

In the video, Anil can be seen having an argument with the driver, identified as K Santhosh Kumar. As the argument intensified, the driver accelerated the car, causing Anil to be thrown onto the bonnet. The vehicle traveled nearly a kilometer before coming to a stop.

Anil suffered injuries to his hands and subsequently lodged a complaint with the Town Police. The incident has been widely circulated on social media, generating significant public attention.
