Kerala will lose its identity if Sangh Parivar gains prominence, says CM Pinarayi Vijayan
Kannur: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday slammed the Sangh Parivar stating that Kerala would lose its identity if BJP and RSS gained prominence in the state. He also said that Hindu right-wing organizations have created a controversy over the Sabarimala issue as well by attacking the Muslim identity of Vavar, believed to have been a companion of Lord Ayyappa. Vijayan was speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed CPM district committee office building in Kannur. He said that people should keep a vigil against the rise of the Sangh Parivar's ideology. "CPM or LDF cannot address the issue alone. The people of Kerala should remain vigilant and joint hands against it," he added. The CM said that people of Kerala are now free to choose their own food and clothing. "We can go to any worship places. However, it would be denied if RSS gets prominence. Wherever they gain power, people are attacked over food," he added. Vijayan also said that people of Kerala would lose Onam and Mahabali if RSS gets power. "They (RSS) do not accept the story of Mahabali related to Onam. They want to give prominence to Vamanan," he added. Referring the recent remarks of Union home minister Amit Shah that BJP will secure 25% votes in the upcoming local body elections and majority in the next assembly polls, Vijayan said people should treat such claims seriously. It is not just a matter of CPM or LDF, he said. He also slammed the Sangh Parivar over the Sabarimala temple. "It is a fact that Vavar has vital importance alongside Lord Ayyappa in Sabaraimala. But Sangh Parivar could not admit this inclusive tradition because of Vavar's Muslim identity. They (RSS) are feeling uncomfortable as a Muslim gets importance. They are trying to turn Sabarimala into a place of division. However, those who believe in Lord Ayyappa could never accept RSS stand," he added. Vijayan alleged that RSS asks whether a Muslim can have a place in Lord Ayyappa's story. However, it is what makes Kerala's culture unique, he said. "Sangh Parivar always tries to enforce their narrow-minded ideology. The society should realise this. Sangh Parivar never accept minorities. Now, our society is feeling peaceful. Every vote for BJP will only tarnish the identity of our state," he added.
