A K Saseendran inaugurated the corporation level launch of the
Subhiksha Keralam project
by planting tapioca cutting at Sarovaram on Tuesday.
The corporation launched the scheme to attain self-sufficiency in agriculture. The civic body will cultivate tapioca on 15 hectares of land. Vegetables will be cultivated on another 15 hectares of land. It will also cultivate paddy on the unused paddy fields. The civic body will take up group farming with the help of 3600
neighbourhood groups
and residential associations.
The civic body has been set aside a sum of Rs 1.54 crore for agriculture purposes. The land of the government institutions and private institutions will be brought under cultivation. Required seeds, seedlings and samplings will be distributed to the farmers free of cost.
The civic body will also sell bio manure produced at
Njeliyanparamba
trenching ground for Rs 2 per kg.
Mayor Thottathil Raveendran, deputy mayor Meera Darshak and others attended the programme.
