Mayor directs health standing committee chairman to inspect building housing migrant workers

KOZHIKODE

: The mayor directed the

health standing committee chairman

to inspect the building

housing migrant workers

at

Paroppady ward

and to reopen the building only after the owners rectify all the detected anomalies. Replying to an adjournment motion moved in the council by councilor P M Suresh Babu of UDF, the mayor said that it has come to the notice that

labour accommodations

housing migrant workers in large numbers at Paroppady was causing problem to local residents. Mayor directed the health standing committee chairman to inspect the area and take steps to resolve the complaints of people residing in the nearby areas.


Inviting the attention of Mayor, councillor P M Suresh Babu said that the building is functioning in the unhygienic surroundings and urged the mayor to take required measures to resolve the issue as it creates a lot of inconvenience to the local residents.

Health officer Dr R S Gopakumar said that of the 262 rented buildings housing migrant workers which were inspected in the corporation limit, the civic body has issued closure notice to 48 buildings.

The council also decided to close down the Tagore centenary hall till the civic body takes steps to install a new transformer.

The council also decided to submit a request letter to the

transport minister A K Saseendran

to introduce bus services on the Gandhi road -mini bypass stretch which was developed under the Kozhikode city road improvement scheme.
