RMP plans to seek more seats, to hold talks in UDF

Kozhikode: Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) has said it intends to contest more seats in the upcoming assembly elections, in addition to its sitting seat of Vadakara, and will take up the matter with the UDF leadership. RMP state secretary N Venu said that the party has made notable strides in the recent local body elections and claimed that the decline of the CPM in the state had prompted several Left-leaning groups and individuals to extend cooperation to the RMP."We are planning to contest a few more seats apart from our sitting seat of Vadakara. If the UDF is willing to hold discussions, the party will decide which constituencies to focus on after internal deliberations. The general position of the party is that we should contest more seats," Venu said.He indicated that constituencies such as Kunnamkulam were under consideration, noting that RMP had won four councillor seats in the Kunnamkulam municipality on its own. He also said the party enjoys organizational strength and has state-level leaders in Thrissur district.Venu added that the UDF had shown readiness to cooperate not only with front constituents but also with various organizations and individuals outside the alliance, and said the RMP would hold talks with the UDF on that basis.RMP was founded by slain CPM rebel leader T P Chandrasekharan in 2008 after his expulsion from the CPM. Chandrasekharan's wife K K Rema had won the Vadakara assembly seat in 2016 wit UDF support.
