Six killed in separate accidents involving cars

Kozhikode/Kottayam: Six people were killed in two accidents that happened in Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode and Monippally in Kottayam on Monday. In the accident at Kunnamangalam, three people lost their lives after a fruit-laden pick-up truck rammed a car in the early hours of the day. The deceased have been identified as car passengers Subukki AP, 27, of Appurath Poyil House, Perumpally in Malappuram; Ahammed Nihal M, 27, of Mandatt House, Vavad, Kozhikode, and truck driver Shameer M of Marakkathodi House at Pozhuthana in Wayanad.Shafeek U, of Uranian House, Pozhuthana, Wayanad, a co-passenger in the truck, sustained injuries.Police said Subukki was driving the car owned by Nihal towards the Koduvally side when the fruit-laden pick-up truck going to Kozhikode side rammed the vehicle at Muriyanal near Kunnamangalam at 2am.The car was reduced to a mangled heap in the impact of the accident. The fire and rescue services personnel had to cut open the cabin of the truck to take out the persons trapped inside the truck. All the three victims were pronounced dead on reaching the hospital.Police have registered case against the truck driver under BNS sections 281 (rash or negligent driving), 125 (a) (rash or negligent acts endangering life or personal safety) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence). Accident while returning from templeThe accident in Kottayam occurred at 11am when a KSRTC bus collided with a car near Monippally on MC Road, killing three passengers.The passengers involved in the accident were returning after visiting Thiruvairanikulam Temple in Aluva. The deceased have been identified as K K Sureshkumar, 50, from Neendoor; his wife Ambili, 45, and their friend's son Arjith, 7. The car was severely damaged in the impact of the crash. Three others travelling in the car have been admitted to hospital with serious injuries.Sureshkumar's friend Plathanam Suraj, 45, from Kollam, his wife Rakhi, 40, and Sureshkumar's son Gokul, 12, are undergoing treatment for injuries. Residents, police and the fire force worked together to take out the deceased and the injured from the car. Arjith was the son of Suraj and Rakhi and was a Class I student at Kaipuzha St Margaret's UP School. The funeral will be conducted on Tuesday afternoon at their residence.
