Two teens gift a new library to Vengara HSS

Malappuram: Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Vengara is going to open a new modernized library with more than five thousand books on Friday, thanks to two teenage students from Dubai, who gifted the library to the

school

as part of their social service project.

The fully-computerized ‘Aksharam’ library was set up by Anirudh Mahesh and Aamir Kudel, who are higher secondary students of Emirates International School in Dubai, after renovating the existing library of the school. Shashi Tharoor MP will inaugurate the renovated library of the school at a function to be held on school campus on Friday.

Aamir Kudel, who is grandson of Muslim League leader P K Kunhalikutty MP, said that the library was set up as part of the compulsory social service of their international school syllabus. “ When our classmates carried out the compulsory social service projects in different international schools across the globe, we decided to select Vengara school in our native country for our joint project. After visiting school months ago we decided to donate a library to the school”, he said.

The total cost of the project is around 1.25 lakh. Aamir said that he raised the money for carrying out the project through conducting a solo painting exhibition in Dubai , while Anirudh raised the fund by organising musical programmes in Dubai. Anirudh, whose parents hail from Ernakulam, is residing in Dubai.

Aamir said they purchased around 4,000 books for the library, most of which are in English language. “As part of the project we also managed to construct a reading room and to develop a data base of books in the library which is fully computerised,” he said.
