13 UP players eye IPL berth at mini auction today
Lucknow: It will be interesting to see how many of the 13 Uttar Pradesh players, who are set to go under the hammer, will be bought on Tuesday when all 10 franchises gather in Abu Dhabi for the IPL mini auction.
IPL franchises will be eyeing fresh talent, and it is hoped that a few of the listed UP players will find favour as the franchises are keen to invest in young talent for long-term stability. Top performers in domestic tournaments will generate the most interest.
The 13 UP players, including Shivam Mavi, Prashant Veer, Naman Tiwari, Kartik Tyagi, Vijay Kumar, Swastik Chikara, Adarsh Singh, Sunil Kumar, Vishal Nishad, Siddharth Yadav, Aaqib Khan, Akshu Bajwa and Shiva Singh, will expect a positive outcome.
Of the lot, Shivam Mavi, Prashant Veer, Adarsh Singh, Kartik Tyagi and Naman Tiwari are likely to attract the franchises given their performance in domestic cricket.
Indian pacer Shivam Mavi is eyeing return to IPL and find a berth in the Indian squad too. Last two years weren't good for Mavi, as he was injured while playing for Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) in the initial phase of IPL 2024.
He recovered from injuries but couldn't find place in the LSG despite training with the squad. Later, he performed well in UPT20 league and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2026.
Another aspiring star allrounder Prashant Veer was in focus with his UPT20 league show as he scored 320 runs in 10 matches and bagged eight wickets in 10 matches. Prashant bagged 9 wickets in 7 matches with 6.5 economy in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025.
Talking to TOI, Prashant said, "I always do my best which is the only thing that is in my hand. Let's see what destiny has in store for me."
Left hand batter Adarsh Singh is the first player who hit the most sixes in one innings in the UPT20 league and scored 352 runs in 10 matches at an average of 50.29 and strike rate of 156.44. After the UPT20 league he also performed well in domestic circuit smashing a rapid double century for Uttar Pradesh against Mumbai in the Men's U23 state ‘A' elite quarter final. He scored 350 runs in seven matches.
Naman Tiwari also made headlines in the UPT20 league and became fourth highest wicket-taker. He bagged 19 wickets in 10 matches with 8.2 economy. After the UPT20 league, Tiwari bagged six wickets in two matches at CK Nayudu Trophy. He said, "I also gave IPl trials in different franchises. Let us see how things turn out for me on Tuesday."
