38th National Games: UP hockey team win silver
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh men's hockey team delivered an impressive performance at the 38th National Games, securing the silver medal in a closely contested final. Meanwhile, Ariba Khan won silver in the women's skeet shooting event, while Aditya Singh Rana bagged silver, and Siddharth Verma claimed two bronze medals in gymnastics. In the men's hockey final held in Haridwar, Uttar Pradesh faced Karnataka, who emerged victorious with a 3-2 win. Shardanand Tiwari was the tournament's top scorer. In the last edition of the Games also, Uttar Pradesh men's hockey team had won the silver. In the final, Uttar Pradesh took an early lead as Faraz Khan converted a penalty corner in the first minute. However, Karnataka's Shamanth CS equalised in the eighth minute. Karnataka then strengthened their position with goals from Bharat Mahalingappa Kurtakoti (18th minute) and Abharan Sudev B (39th minute), both scored from penalty corners. Shardanand Tiwari pulled one back for Uttar Pradesh in the 45th minute, but it wasn't enough to turn the game around. On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh secured one silver and two bronze medals in gymnastics. In the parallel bars event, Aditya Singh Rana clinched silver with a score of 12.433. Siddharth Verma earned bronze medals in the vaulting table (12.50) and horizontal bar (11.833) events. Meanwhile, in the women's skeet shooting final, Ariba Khan won silver with a score of 45. UPOA general secretary Anandeshwar Pandey said that Uttar Pradesh is at 13th place with 56 medals, including 13 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze medals.
