AAP demands use of ballot paper in UP municipal elections in June

LUCKNOW: State unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (

AAP

) on Sunday joined in the chorus against EVM (electronic voting machines) and demanded from the state election commission for ballot paper voting in the upcoming municipal elections in the state.

The party's state convener Avinash Tripathi, on Sunday, alleged that in the wake of several incidents of EVM tampering, the machine should be rolled out of the electoral process and old styled dependable ballot paper be used. "Several political parties have raised alarm against the machines and the results that were being claimed are now coming up in front of the public too. To reinstate trust in the democratic process, the election commission should immediately stop the use of EVMs.

added, "When fingers have been pointed against the machines at various levels, why isn't the election commission getting it checked for authenticity? It has been proved over several times that the EVM software can be tampered with."
