LUCKNOW: Will Akhilesh Yadav be the leader of Samajwadi Party in the Lok Sabha or opt to remain the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the UP assembly to spearhead the next big battle for the party – the 2027 assembly elections? The issue is scheduled to be addressed on Saturday morning when all newly elected SP MPs will converge at the party headquarters in Lucknow for the first time since the declaration of the election results.
Almost all the newly elected MPs back the notion that Akhilesh Yadav should be the party’s face in Parliament. However, a chunk of senior leaders and sitting MLAs are strongly of the view that he should retain his post as LoP in the state assembly keeping in mind that the 2027 assembly elections will be “the next big task at hand” for the party.
