LUCKNOW: The city-based
Darul Uloom Farangi Mahal
on Thursday issued a 'Fatwa' making it imperative for everyone to get tested and treated for coronavirus infection. The issued Fatwa says that it's a crime against humanity and forbidden in Islam as per Quran and the Prophet's Hadiths if someone puts theirs and other lives in danger.
Releasing a statement on the Fatwa,
Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali
said that a question seeking guidance on the matter was received from advocate Sheikh Said Raees, at the Darul Ifta (a body responsible for issuing Fatwas) within Darul Uloom Farangi Mahal. The Fatwa was signed by Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, Maulana Nasrullah, Maulana Naeem-Ur-Rahman Siddiqui and Maulana Mohammad Mushtaq.
"In these times when the coronvirus has become a pandemic and a national health emergency is in force, we issue a Fatwa that it is mandatory for all suspected persons to get themselves tested for Covid-19 and those who affected by the virus and are in hiding should get themselves treated for the disease," said Maulana Khalid Rasheed.
He further added that it is Haraam (forbidden) and a sinful act if somebody keeps others in darkness and deceives them of their illness.
"So if somebody has coronvirus and is deceiving the authorities about the same, it is a criminal act and to get treatment is a Sharia responsibility," he said.
In the question received at the Darul Ifta, advocate Sheikh Said Raees had asked what are the directions for a person affected by coronvirus but hiding it. The second part of the question sought answer on following treatment protocols for Covid-19 by doctors and government.
"Islam gives high importance to a person's life and it tells people to not put their life or others life in danger. If a coronvirus-infected person does not get treated, they will put their own life at risk and the community's. Quran says that saving one person's life is equal to saving that of all humankind. The Quran also asks a person to not kill themselves and by not getting treatment a person can get killed. The Hadith also clarifies that it is forbidden to hamper a life," said the cleric.
Maulana Khalid Rasheed also said that at a time when the government and healthcare workers are making extreme efforts to curb the virus' spread in the country, it is deplorable that some people are indulging in customs and traditions and wasting all efforts to contain the pandemic.
When clerics and muftis are making people aware of not holding congregations, namaz in mosques, about the virus and their health, Maulana Khalid Rasheed said that some people are still non-serious and are misguiding people that they can treat them with their antics.
