Cyber experts train cops to combat rising online scams
Lucknow: With an aim to curb “digital arrest” scams and other sophisticated cyber frauds, the Lucknow Police Commissionerate organised a one-day specialised training workshop to strengthen the technical capabilities of its personnel, roping in private cyber experts to bridge critical skill gaps.
The workshop, held at Vishveshwaraya Hall, was conducted under the guidance of JCP (Crime & Headquarters) Aparna Kumar and JCP (Law & Order) Babloo Kumar and was attended by 117 personnel, including cyber help desk in-charges, sub-inspectors of the 2023 batch and officers posted in cyber cells and cyber police stations.
Cyber experts Anuj Agrawal and Deep Diwakar conducted detailed discussions, focusing on emerging threats such as digital arrest scams, cyberstalking, financial fraud, social engineering and online cheating.
Officials said “digital arrest” frauds have seen a noticeable rise, prompting the need for specialised training. Practical case studies and real-world simulations were used to familiarise officers with evolving cybercrime patterns and investigative procedures.
The workshop also covered advanced topics, including blockchain technology, artificial intelligence (AI), cryptocurrency and the dark web. Participants were trained in cryptocurrency-related investigations, digital transaction tracking and techniques for the collection and analysis of electronic evidence.
Police said the initiative aims to ensure that personnel are equipped with modern technical skills to effectively investigate cyber offences and enhance public protection against digital threats. Similar training programmes will be conducted regularly to make policing more technology-driven and responsive to emerging cyber risks.
