Discussion on language at book fair

Lucknow: A discussion on ‘Cultural Identity and English Language' was held at the ongoing Gomti book festival at Riverfront Park on Tuesday. The session was conducted by author Suneeta Madan and guest speakers were Prof Rajneesh Arora of English and Foreign Languages University and Roopam Singh, a professional in translation and editing.
Elaborating on the beauty of literature post translation, Singh said "The job of the translator is highly demanding. The essence, beauty and emotion of the text remains intact if it is translated rightly. It has always been about how you say it. Indians are considered excellent translators because they are multilingual."
Arora said it was common for everybody to think in their mother tongue and then translate it another language.
Other sessions held included art of storytelling, enhancing personality through Kathak, cybersecurity, sensitivity an important part of society and literature and access to books through digital medium.
Later, musical performances were presented by students of Integral University, band performance and ghazal and singing performances were also presented by students of various colleges.
