Five UP players make a mark in IPL mini auction

Lucknow: Besides Amethi boy Prashant Veer, the most expensive uncapped player in the IPL auction history, four more players from Uttar Pradesh were sold at the mini auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

The players included Lucknow's Naman Tiwari, Shivam Mavi, Kartik Tyagi and Vishal Nishad. Out of a total of 13 UP players in fray, five were able to find a place in the IPL teams.


Lucknow's Naman Tiwari became only the fourth player from the city to find a place in IPL after Akshdeep Nath, Vipraj Nigam and Zeeshan Ansari. Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) roped him in for Rs 1 crore. Naman Tiwari made headlines in the UPT20 league when he had grabbed 19 wickets in 10 matches to become the fourth highest wicket taker. After the UPT20 league, Tiwari bagged six wickets in two matches of the CK Nayudu Trophy.

Talking to TOI, Naman said, "After the Under-19 World Cup 2024, I needed a big break to prove myself, I had an opportunity in the UPT20 league and I did it by taking 19 wickets. After this I have got a big break now and I will do my best to prove myself."

"I thank Sanjeev Goenka and Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) for showing faith in me after I spent the last two years as a net bowler with LSG. I am also grateful to Colvin Taluqdars' Academy coach Vishwajeet Sinha who helped me a lot, especially when I suffered injuries. He always stands by me," he added.

Pace bowler Shivam Mavi has been acquired by Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 95 lakh. After injury, he came back in the IPL 2024 season but couldn't find place as a replacement. After a few months, he came back strongly in the UPT20 league 2025 and became the highest wicket taker. He also performed well during the domestic season.

Kartik Tyagi was roped in for Rs 30 lakh. Kartik performed well in UPT20 league 2025 where he grabbed 17 wickets and became fifth highest wicket taker. UP's Vishal Nishad was also picked by Punjab Kings.
