NEW DELHI: BJP's Ravi Kishan has won from the Gorakhpur constituency with a vote margin of 1,03,526 against SP's Kajal Nishad.

The counting of votes is underway in the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency. It's a fierce contest between BJP's Ravi Kishan, SP's Kajal Nishad and BSP's Javed Simanani for the Gorakhpur seat. Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency emerges as a pivotal battleground, poised for a high-stakes electoral showdown.

Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat voted on June 1 in the Phase 7 of Lok Sabha elections. According to the Election Commission, the voter turnout was recorded at 54.69 per cent.

The Gorakhpur seat holds prominence as Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has been elected as the Member of Parliament from here five times consecutively, spanning from 1998 to 2017. It's worth noting that the Gorakhpur district comprises two Lok Sabha constituencies: Gorakhpur and Bansgaon.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Gorakhpur saw a highly contested electoral battle, with a voter turnout of 58.02%. BJP candidate Ravindra Shyamnarayan Shukla, also known as Ravi Kishan, emerged victorious in the 2019 General Election with an impressive victory margin of 3,01,664 votes, securing a total of 7,17,122 votes. Ravi Kishan defeated Rambhual Nishad of the SP, who received 4,15,458 votes.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Yogi Adityanath of the BJP secured a resounding victory in the Gorakhpur seat, garnering an impressive 5,39,127 votes. His closest rival, Rajmati Nishad of the SP, received 2,26,344 votes.
