I-T dept awareness event on new tax laws
Lucknow: The Income Tax department on Wednesday organised an awareness programme at Lucknow University under the nationwide campaign “Prarambh 2026” to educate taxpayers about the newly implemented Income Tax Act 2025 and Income Tax Rules 2026.
The new legislation, which came into effect on April 1, 2026, has replaced the decades-old Income Tax Act, 1961. The campaign has been launched by the Central Board of Direct Taxes under the Union finance ministry to spread awareness regarding the new tax framework.
The programme was organised by the Exemption Charge, Lucknow under the guidance of Income Tax Commissioner Mazhar Akram and additional Income Tax Commissioner Preeti Singh.
Experts highlighted major reforms introduced for tax-exempt institutions, including simplified legal provisions, clearer language, and integration of tables and formulas to improve compliance and reduce litigation. Under the new law, tax-exempt entities will now be termed “Registered Non-Profit Organisations.”
Around 450 affiliated colleges from Lucknow and neighbouring districts participated in the programme along with principals, finance officials, researchers and students.
