LUCKNOW: Inspired by a couplet from Tulsidas' Ramcharitmanas "Mangal bhawan amangal Haari, Dravahu So Dasarath Ajir Bihari", around 50 of his supporters raise slogan "Mangal Bhavan Amangal Hari, Anjani Bhaiya Sab Pe Bhari" as Anjani Kumar Srivastava, BJP's Lucknow West candidate, enters different lanes in his constituency as part of campaigning.

Hearing slogans, people come out of their houses or on balconies to have a glimpse. Anjani waves at those standing in balconies and bows to those who come forward to meet him and doesn't forget to pay obeisance at all the temples falling in his campaign route. He enquires people about their issues and assures their redressal, if elected, through his 11-point development agenda of the constituency.

A businessman by profession, 58-year-old Anjani has been associated with the RSS since 1975. He took part in the Ram Temple movement. He was also active in student politics during his graduation and post-graduation from Lucknow University. He joined BJP in 2010 and at present serves as BJP's regional coordinator of Labour Wing Awadh area.

Anjani, who is contesting his first election, says that he never thought the party would provide him such a huge opportunity. Paying tribute to late Suresh Shrivastava, who represented Lucknow West three times earlier and died during the second wave of Covid-19 last year, he announced that he would install Shrivastava's statue in the mini stadium in Rajajipuram and rename the stadium after him.

At Mehndi Khera area, Shiv Shankar Shukla (87) informs Anjani about sewage disposal issues in the area. Anjani assures that he will complete all the pending projects in the constituency in a time bound manner.
