KGMU trauma centre runs short of JRs
Lucknow: Two non-PG junior residents (JRs) have resigned from the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) trauma centre within weeks of joining, adding to the doctor shortage.
Officials said only 22 non-PG JRs are working against 47 sanctioned posts, leaving over half the positions vacant. The 400-bed trauma centre admits about 200 patients daily. Patients are first taken to the 42-bed casualty ward before being shifted to specialised units. During peak load, patients are kept on stretchers. Around 11 non-PG JRs were recruited recently, but two resigned soon after joining.
Trauma centre chief medical superintendent Prof Prem Raj Singh said resignations are routine, as many JRs leave to prepare for postgraduate entrance exams or pursue other opportunities. He said efforts are underway to fill vacancies.
