Police said they could not ascertain the cause of death and were waiting for the autopsy report to register a case.

The deceased student, Vikas (name changed), of Gomtinagar was a student of a school in Vastu Khand. He had gone to help a friend, who studies in a school in Vaibhav Khand, to settle a dispute, police said.

"Shakti (name changed) had a rivalry with the students of class X and he had an exchange of abuses with them on Friday on the school campus," said the police.

DCP (East) Prachi Singh told TOI that the deceased student had gone there from the side of Shakti and later he was found lying unconscious.

"The doctors and police team didn't find any injuries on the victim's body and the reason behind the death was still uncertain. We sent the body for autopsy and will take further action in view of the autopsy report," she said.

Police said some commuters spotted the victim lying unconscious at the roadside and rushed him to RMLIMS when they found him unresponsive. "The doctors pronounced him dead," police said.

Principal of school at Vastu Khand Anita Choudhary told TOI that she was in a state of shock. "The victim was an average science student and not coming to school since November 22 citing ill health. We have never heard or come across any complaint against him in the last one year at the school," she said.

The victim's father, Shankaracharya, who lives in Purvanchal Enclave of Chinhat and is posted as a head constable in Barabanki, was inconsolable.

"My son was very good at sports and studies. We wanted him to become a doctor," he said. The boy's mother, Mamta, was in a state of shock.
