Man killed by parents of girl over inter-faith marriage

Kanpur: In an incident reported from Auraiya district, a couple, enraged by their daughter's marriage to a man of a different faith, murdered him and disposed of the body in a submersible chamber. The details of the crime came to light on Saturday during investigation by a team formed under supervision of the SP Charu Nigam. The accused couple were arrested on basis of complaint filed by the deceased's brother.
Married woman Jyoti Sharma, resident of Ashok Nagar in Babarpur town, was in an illicit relationship with Meraj of Bindki Fatehpur two years ago. In that period, Meraj also developed relations with Jyoti's daughter, Mandavi alias Goldie. On coming to know about it, Jyoti arranged for Goldie to marry Sandeep, resident of Bharathan in Etawah, but only 15 days after her marriage, Goldie eloped with Meraj and forged a relationship through court marriage. Jyoti reported to police her daughter's disappearance and along with her husband, Arvind, plotted to kill Meraj.
On Sep 2, Jyoti invited Goldie and Meraj to their home. Two days later, the couple sent Goldie and her brother to a relative's house, while Jyoti laced Meraj's food with sleeping pills. While he was asleep, the couple killed Meraj by crushing his head with a brick. "After killing Meraj, the couple cleaned the blood from room and destroyed Meraj's mobile phone. Police recovered four of remaining sleeping pills, half-burned mobile phone, the brick used for murder and Meraj's clothes." The couple admitted to murder. Based on their confession, police found evidence. The SP said a murder case had been registered against Arvind and Jyoti. TNN
