Meerut to Prayagraj in 6-7 hours: UP’s mega Ganga Expressway nears takeoff

Inauguration date

The 594-km-long Ganga Expressway will be inaugurated formally for public use on April 29 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. (All Images by Salabh)

Meerut–Prayagraj in 6–7 hours

Once operational, the expressway will significantly reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj to around 6–7 hours, compared to the current 10–12 hours.

Speed design

"Designed for speeds of up to 120 kmph, the expressway will cut down travel time between the two cities to approximately 6-7 hours from the current 10-12 hours," said an official.

UPEIDA leading the project

The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has overseen the construction and development of the expressway.

Road design

The expressway has been constructed as a 6-lane road, with provisions in place for future expansion to 8-lanes depending on traffic demand.

Land allocation

A 120-metre right-of-way has been used for the project, allowing space for lanes, service roads, and future infrastructure expansion.

Construction model

To ensure faster execution and quality control, the entire project has been divided into four construction packages.

Toll system

The expressway features two main toll plazas at Meerut and Prayagraj, along with 19 ramp toll plazas for convenient entry and exit points.

Public facilities

9 public utility complexes have been developed along the route, offering fuel stations, food courts, rest areas, and clean sanitation facilities.

Engineering highlights

The project includes a nearly 960-metre bridge over the Ganga and a 720-metre bridge over the Ramganga, engineered to handle flood conditions and water flow dynamics.
