LUCKNOW: As part of the exercise to accommodate BJP workers into commissions and boards, Agra's Babita Chauhan was named chairperson of the UP State Women's Commission. Former CM Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in-law, Aparna Yadav, who joined the party in 2022 after quitting SP, was named the vice-chairperson.

BJP functionary from Gorakhpur, Charu Chaudhary, is the other vice-chairperson. Besides, Department of Women and Child Development also nominated 25 members to the commission.

All the nominations are for a period of one year. Babita Chauhan is a prominent BJP functionary from Agra and is part of the BJP's state executive committee. Aparna Yadav has been actively involved with the BJP for the past two years, and it was being speculated that the party would give her some important role.
