Photos of teacher sleeping in class go viral, suspended

Lucknow: Minister of basic education (independent charge) Anupama Jaiswal on Friday ordered suspension of a teacher posted in Sitapur after photographs showing him sleeping on a mat in classroom went viral on WhatsApp. The action was taken after the minister herself received the photos on her messaging app.

The teacher Atul Kumar Mishra employed in primary school Sasirdipur in block Pisawan of Sitapur district was shown to be in deep sleep with a cloth covering his head. He was surrounded by students seated with books on their head. Surprisingly, children too were seated on a cushion on mat in the absence of desk and benches.

The picture, taken by someone, through mobile phone soon started doing rounds in WhatsApp. It also landed on the cell phone of the basic education minister on Thursday.

Anupama Jaiswal forwarded the photos to basic siksha adhikari (BSA) Sitapur directing him to probe over the viral photos received on her mobile number. BSA Ajay Kumar during probe found that Mishra was a regular absentee and used to sleep in classroom during school hours. Another teacher Rekha Rani was found to be putting signature in advance and showing indiscipline after which their suspension of both was ordered.

Anupama Jaiswal said such a lax approach by teaching fraternity would not be tolerated anymore.
