Ram temple complex to have a memorial for janmabhoomi movement participants

Lucknow: Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Trust will build a memorial in the Ram temple complex as a tribute to people who were part of the 500 years of struggle for the temple in Ayodhya.

The hoisting of Dharm Dhwaj on Tuesday marked the completion of Ram temple, a dream fulfilled after a struggle of centuries. During those five centuries, countless people were associated with the temple movement and many of them even laid down their lives for the cause, said a VHP functionary.

"A memorial not just for karsevaks but for all those who laid down their lives while contributing to the struggle or were part of the struggle in the past 500 years will be constructed," VHP chief Alok Kumar confirmed to TOI and added that a building for the residence of seers and trust offices would also be constructed. He said an auditorium and a museum will also be constructed. These constructions will be taken up immediately, the VHP chief said.

In his address during flag hoisting ceremony, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had said: "So many people sacrificed for this (Ram temple) and their souls must have found peace today. Ashok ji (late VHP leader Ashok Singhal) must have found peace, and many saints, students and people from all walks of life who gave their lives, and even those who couldn't participate but always dreamed of this temple, would feel fulfilled today."

"There had been a demand to remember those who contributed to the Ram temple movement, and with the temple getting constructed, the time has come to remember them by building a memorial," a VHP worker said. Adhering to this growing sentiment, the temple trust has decided to construct a memorial.

Anything needed for the welfare of the devotees can also come up in the temple compound, VHP central secretary Ambrish said and added that since the trust still has enough land such constructions could be done in the future.
