LUCKNOW: The estimated 2 lakh voters of the newly-added villages, who have taken total count of voters within the municipal corporation to about 5.96 lakh more as compared to 2017 local body polls, said they have voted in the hope of getting facilities they have been waiting for years now.
About 10km away from Khargapur, people staying in Ganeshpur, a village situated off Dewa road in Chinhat, are also looking forward to rural to urban transformation. A part of the readjusted Ismailganj-2 municipal ward, 1,650 voters from the locality have to elect a general woman corporator.
The quick growth in the real estate sector has brought prosperity among Ganeshpur residents who own SUVs, air conditioners, RO water purifiers and expensive smartphones.
"However, when it rains heavily for 20-30 minutes, the road leading to the village from Dewa Road gets submerged. Water from drains enters our houses. The price of land has gone up in Chinhat but the condition of villages nestled within the urban expanse remains the same. We want similar services and treatment after we elect our representative," said Shallini Awasthi, a college graduate from Ganeshpur who aspires to be a banker.
Amrai village in Indiranagar has been also brought under a new ward, named Shaheed Bhagat Singh ward.
Mohd Saad, said: "No public transport is available in our area. Accessing quality education is a problem as most of the reputed institutes are situated far away. "
Jankipuram Extension, Malhaur, Arjunganj, Mastemau, Ahimamau, and Keshavnagar are among the neglected residential pockets that are now a part of the civic body.
