NEW DELH: Opposition MPs on Monday criticized the government and BJP over the Sambhal violence in Uttar Pradesh, alleging it was orchestrated to polarize communities.

The clashes on Sunday, during a court-ordered survey of a Mughal-era mosque, left five dead and dozens injured, including 20 security personnel and four officials.

Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav called the incident "unfortunate," confirming his party's intention to raise the matter in both Houses of Parliament. "We have given notices for adjournment and will definitely raise the issue," said Yadav. Sambhal MP Ziaur Rahman Barq also termed the violence "pre-planned," accusing the ruling dispensation of targeting the Muslim community.

Congress MP Imran Masood from Saharanpur alleged that the violence was "state-sponsored," claiming police were complicit.

BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj countered these claims, asserting the violence was instigated by those "shaken" by BJP's growing dominance, especially following its recent UP assembly bypoll performance, where it secured seven of nine seats.

The matter briefly echoed in the Lok Sabha as opposition members sought to address the issue. However, the session adjourned after obituary references.
