Former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand

, who has been accused of sexual assault by a Shahjahanpur based law student, was discharged from the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow on Monday evening.

Chinmayanand, who was undergoing treatment at

SGPGI Lucknow

for the past one week, was taken back to Shahjahanpur jail by police officials.

The BJP leader had been brought from the same jail to SGPGI on September 23 and admitted to the medical facility's cardiology unit when he complained of severe chest pain in the left side and low blood pressure.

As per SGPGI's press bulletin on the day, Chinmayanand was discharged on Monday evening at 6:30pm. He had been under the care of head of the cardiology department of SGPGI, Prof PK Goel and was taken in at the medical intensive care unit (MICU) to ascertain the caus eof chest pain.

Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG) Bareily Range, Rajesh Pandey confirmed to TOI that Chinmayanand was being taken back to Shahjahanpur jail, where he was initially put under a 14-day special invetigating team remand.

“He is being taken to Shahjanhpur jail. A team of doctors is also with Chinmayanand. If team thinks that he is not in a condition to travel then they might halt at some place,” added Pandey.

Earlier on Thursday, SGPGI had informed media that the angiography conducted on Chinmayanand had found no blockages in the politician's heart. He had then still complained of severe weakness and urinary problems which is why he continued to be put under observation. Further investigation for his diabetic and urinary issues was run, which when found cleared, he was discharged on Monday evening.
