Stray dogs mutilate body of stillborn outside Lucknow hospital

LUCKNOW: A stillborn was dragged by stray dogs and mutilated outside

(QMH) late on Thursday night, sending ripples across campus and the city, this incident occurs a day after a gangrape was reported at King George's Medical University (

).

, over a 100 kilometres off Lucknow, was brought to QMH at 8:35 pm. She later gave birth to a still born who was then handed over to the family for its last rites.

However, as per KGMU at around 11:30 pm on Thursday before they could send the body for post mortem, the brother of Maya Devi went to look for transport and the stray dogs attacked the still born baby. It was then that bystanders raised an alarm and called the police.

"The brother informed us that he had left the body with a person at the tea stall, while he went looking for an auto to the burial ground. But somehow, dogs pulled the body away and started mutilating it," said chief medical superintendent (CMS), KGMU Dr SN Sankhwar.

When TOI contacted the brother of Maya Devi, he said, "The baby was born dead so my wife came to me with the body wrapped in cloth and polythene and I had to go to Baloo Adda to bury it. I had to fetch a conveyance, so I left the body with a person I had had tea with at the tea stall. When I came back, I saw a lot of people and the police and I came to know what had happened," he said. "I then fled in fear but the rest of the family is still at the hospital," he added.

The police on the other hand claimed that there was no family to claim the body and it had it sent for further investigation through post mortem. "We are still enquiring what had happened," said IP Singh, inspector,
